In celebration of Black History Month, Nissan created the Electric Beats initiative: an ever-evolving platform to honor Black innovation in STEAM, emphasizing music. I co-led this initiative’s evolution across campaigns and activations from 2022 - 2024.

2022

Electric Beats was launched to honor the Black legacies that innovated every music genre without proper recognition or compensation. Nissan started hiring Black music creators to produce thrilling soundtracks for our creative marketing work, and spotlight their involvement. We brought in Jay Ellis to honor these Black legacies in music, and announce our hiring initiative.

2023

For Black History Month 2023, we assembled rising star, Jay Ellis,  with Electric Beats’ ambassadors, Dope Candi and King Fresh, to excite everyone for the initiative’s next chapter.

Since Electric Beat’s launch, Nissan hired new Black music creators to produce thrilling soundtracks for a number of campaigns. We dialed up our support for these creators by starring two of our most recognized ambassadors, as we prepared to launch opportunities for the next generation.

2024

In 2024, we partnered with iHeart’s Black Effect Podcast Network’s ‘I Didn’t Know, Maybe You Didn’t Either (IDKMYDE)’ podcast. We filmed featured episodes spotlighting Black legacies in STEAM fields for this Black history-focused podcast.

We wanted to leverage our previous success with Black Effect partnerships to build brand affinity with the community, while spotlighting Nissan’s support of the National Museum of African American Music.
